Meet Jessica

Hi there! I’m Jess. I'm a 1st year Master of Social Work student at King's University College. I am very excited to support children and families during my practicum at Kid Zen. My education includes a Child and Youth Worker diploma from Fanshawe College and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Huron University College. In addition, I have training in gender-based and sexual violence prevention, suicide prevention, trauma informed care, play therapy (CAPT), crisis prevention, and autism awareness. I am looking forward to obtaining a certificate in cognitive behavioural therapy prior to starting my practicum.

Since graduating I have worked in a program supporting individuals with mental health concerns, addiction, trauma, and daily living struggles. I bring empathy, compassion, respect, and a judgement free attitude to my interactions with clients. I believe that clients are the experts of their own lives and that a collaborative process will foster positive change. My approach to therapy includes a belief in the power of play, and a strength-based, non-judgemental, client-centered approach.

In my free time I figure skate, golf, and enjoy taking my dog for walks. My favourite hobby is crafts. I have tried many crafts including knitting, embroidery, candle making, scrapbooking, making resin items, macrame and latch hooking. For my own self-care I spend time with friends and family and practice mindfulness with daily yoga.

I look forward to getting to know you and starting this journey together!
